Thermocouple colour coding

The following colour chart details the colour of the insulation of eleven thermocouple types.

Greyed thermocouples are not defined by the national standard.

In some cases, the outer insulation colour differs between measurement and extension grade wires. The radical differences between national standards will be noted. National politics must have been involved, as there can be no other explanation!

If the wires are reversed when connected to a data acquisition or data logging system the resulting readings will not be sensible and linearization error flags may be raised.,
